Why Zumba®?

Besides giving you a cardio workout that will make you burn serious calories, Zumba classes help you tone muscle and increase flexibility.

For example, many choreographies include moves that tap into core strength to tone your ab muscles and shrink your middle.

I've also completed a 'Zumba Core' course that makes it easier for me to integrate these dynamic core moves safely and effectively.

Lastly, let's don't forget one of Zumba's biggest benefits: a big dose of happiness each time you leave class!

Are you a newbie?

Thinking about giving Zumba classes a try? You'll enjoy this article by magazine editor Shallon Lester about her very FIRST Zumba class.

"Wait, do I actually like to exercise?!" is an entertaining read that illustrates why Zumba Fitness is one of the most popular group fitness classes in the world!

Hi, everyone!

I'm Martha Palacios from Dallas, TX, and I absolutely love teaching Zumba® classes. The reason: Every class is a blast!

Precisely, that's what sets the Zumba program apart from many other exercise classes: You get a total-body workout without even realizing it. Call it "exercise in disguise."

Zumba classes mix low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning fitness party that incorporates Latin and international music and dance moves.

Now, don't let the words "dance moves" intimidate you. The program is designed for everyone--all fitness levels, whether you've ever danced or not. We present steps in an easy-to-follow format that leaves nobody behind. On the contrary, everybody leaves feeling energized, stronger and happier.

Thanks for visiting!

What does a Zumba class look like?

Zumba's roots are founded in the rich rhythms of Latin cultures. However, now that the program's outreach has spread globally, Zumba embraces other international and fusion rhythms that allow students to dance to a wider variety of songs.

Due to the different intensities of the rhythms in a single class (and even in a single song), the program offers a less structured form of interval training that is also highly effective!

Sure it's fun, but is it effective?

The Zumba program integrates basic principles of aerobic, interval and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular benefits and body sculpting.

In 2012, the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the nation's Workout Watchdog®, commissioned a study with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science to determine the effectiveness of the program.

The conclusion was clear: "Zumba may feel like a party, but this research suggests that it's also a highly effective workout."

“It’s a total-body exercise—a good, high-energy aerobic workout. Zumba Fitness is also good for core strengthening and flexibility gains because there are lots of hip and midsection movements.”

"In comparison with other exercises tested in the past by the University’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science, Zumba burns more calories than cardio kickboxing, step aerobics, hooping and power yoga."
